Location
Literally a matter of metres from the entrance to Machu Picchu, this is the biggest attraction to the hotel. The buses ferrying tourists up from Aguas Calientes stop directly outside, but once MP closes, the evenings are very peaceful. The views of Huayna Picchu, especially from the spa, are impressive.
Layout
Respectfully restricted to two storeys. To the rear for the property, away from the murmur of the bus stop, are the tranquil gardens that house over 800 species or orchid. A number of the rooms have a terrace, that lead on to a communal outdoor area with wonderful mountain views.
.
Rooms
A total of 31 rooms, divided between Standard, Deluxe, Deluxe Terrace, Superior Terrace and two Suites. The terraces offer a nice spot of outdoor space, but they are not particularly private – guests in other rooms and even from the main building have direct views of the terraces.
Features
As well as offering private tour of the citadel, guests can also enjoy coca-leaf reading, Pachamama tributes with a shaman, yoga, private gardens and the spa. The Belmond Sanctuary Lodge also has a special ceremony area for weddings. Special packages are also available, combining the Belmond’s stunning properties in Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and, of course, the luxurious Hiram Bingham train.
