Review

Definitely one of our favourite camps in and around the Torres Del Paine, the look and feel of the camp is superb…but, due to its location a good hour from the Park’s northern entrance, it is a bit of an “inbetween” hotel for most. What the Patagonia Camp does provide is a quirky and luxurious base for those looking to do plenty of outdoor activities. Most who stay here will look to do a day or two in the national park and then spend the rest of the time walking and biking in the surrounding, lush forests.

As we state above, it is a bit of a shame that the Patagonia Camp is not a bit closer to the Torres del Paine…although, you could also argue that it is a good thing it is not! What being closer/inside the park offers is some great walking with the stunning granite mount and the many colourful lakes as the backdrop. This being said though…wherever you go will have plenty of others around you doing the same. Where Patagonia Camp benefits is that, in an hour or so, you can be walking in and around the massif, but, being set in the midst of beech tree forests, in an area with absolutely nobody around, it is also possible to spend your days walking in stunning beauty, but without a single other person!

The rooms and communal areas are what make this camp so special. Each of the rooms uses a “yurt” style, round room set on its own platform with a clear opening in the roof for stargazing at night. Inside there is a simple blend of natural wood and cotton fabrics that give them an airy and light feel to them. Without exception they all have great views out to the lake and to the Cuernos in the far distance (just!). The main areas, similarly, have an earthy and natural feel to them.

With a full range of activities that can be planned out every evening over your favourite tipple before a great meal and friendly informal service, there is little to criticise in our view. We do concede that not being that close to the Torres may well be a deal breaker for most as it means longer days getting in and out of the Park to the start of the main hikes…but it is still somewhere we highly recommend as it is not often that lodges or hotels manage to get it really right!! It’s also worth mentioning the new additions of kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing in Lake Toro and Laguna Bonita, which are exclusive to Patagonia Camp and add something different to the excursions menus at other hotels.

Beautiful location, great, natural feeling rooms and communal areas, activities

Not close enough to the park
