Location
Hotel Mirador del Lago is set back just a few hundred metres from the shore of Lago Argentino. The property is set back and up from the road, due the hilly nature of El Calafate – which improves the lake views and eliminates noise from any traffic. Downtown Calafate, where all of the amenities can be found, is just a 10-15 minute walk.
Layout
The hotel’s sweeping driveway leads to the main entrance and foyer, with guest parking around the corner to the rear of the property. The dining room - serving breakfast, lunch & dinner – is situated to the front, offering lake-views for those lucky enough to nab a window table. The hotel has been developed since it was built in the 1980s, most recently in 2006 when 30 rooms were added in a 3-storey extension.
Rooms
Hotel Mirador del Lago now has 68 rooms in total, divided almost evenly between the old wing and the new wing. Half of the rooms offer lake-views, but be aware that the lead-in category is the economy rooms in the old wing, which are smaller. For families, there are 5 sets of inter-connecting rooms. There is also one Suite, with an additional lounge area and a balcony facing Lago Argentino.
Features
Guests can chose to stay on a bed & breakfast, half-board or full-board basis. However, with so many eateries a short walk away, our opinion is that B&B will certainly suffice. Hotel Mirador del Lago offers free parking for guests, but this is limited and on a first-come-first-served basis. Reception is happy to assist with booking transfers and tours, for which there is an optional lunch-box service.
